The Afternoon Shift – Sept. 27

A definite chill is in the air, with Opening Night only 11 days away. For those less fortunate in Michigan, Fox Motors and the Griffins have teamed up on a coat drive to help keep them warm.

Starting today through Oct. 15, the companies are asking for donations of new or gently used coats, as well as blankets, hats and gloves and scarves. They can be dropped off at any Fox Motors dealership or at the Griffins office at the Van Andel Arena. For every new coat donated, donors will receive a voucher to purchase up to four tickets to the Griffins’ Friday, Oct. 22 game for just $10 each. Check out the media coverage from WZZM13 and eightWest.

It was a busy weekend on the hockey front, as the Red Wings played three preseason games in three days. Detroit sandwiched home wins over the Blackhawks (3-2 on Friday) and Rangers (5-3 on Sunday) around Saturday’s 4-2 loss at Chicago, evening their exhibition mark at 2-2. Check out MLive’s Mike Zuidema’s capsules on how the prospective Griffins fared in each outing:
