The Afternoon Shift – Oct. 4

Aaron Downey/Photo by Mark Newman

“Downs but not out” would be an appropriate headline for this weekend’s news that former Griffins and Red Wings enforcer Aaron Downey, cut from his tryout by Detroit  last week, has accepted a position with the organization as a minor league strength and conditioning coach. You can read all about it in stories from MLive, the Detroit Free Press and the Detroit News

Anyone who has experienced his engaging personality, witnessed his fiery on-ice persona or seen some of his workouts – imagine him shadowboxing fiercely while running full-speed on a treadmill – can agree that this is a good move for all parties involved. It will be fun seeing him around the Van once again this season.
