The Afternoon Shift – Oct. 8

If you can’t stand the Heat, then make sure you’re at Van Andel Arena tonight to cheer on the Griffins as they open the 2010-11 regular season against Abbotsford at 7 p.m. Grand Rapids is in hot pursuit of its 15th consecutive opening night sellout, a remarkable achievement considering the nature of minor league sports and the condition of Michigan’s economy, and a testament to the incredible fan support that the team still enjoys after all these years.

Want to jump on board? There’s still time and room, but fewer than 1,000 tickets remained at last check. Get yours here or by calling 800-585-3737.

The Hockey News seems to think good things are in store for the Griffins this season, putting them ninth in their preseason AHL rankings following a playoff-less 2009-10 campaign. Enough talk, though. After six months without Griffins hockey, it’s time to drop the puck!
